This site is host to the Enfield Car club which is set up to facilitate communication and collaboration between people interested in Enfield 8000 electric cars. This is an amateur site set up to preserve and make more freely available information and historical documents relating to the Enfield 8000 electric car which was designed and conceived on the Isle of Wight and after a labour dispute production transferred to Syros from 1974 to 1976. Considered by many to be the first modern day commercially available production electric car. It was a bold attempt to make a proper car when batteries were still rather heavy and old fashioned. Remarkably 120 units were made and sold both in the UK and abroad. Units are known to have sold to Australia, South Africa and other countries around the world. This site attempts to record the history of these cars and register the survivors. It has a number of related documents which can be downloaded and viewed to either help with the restoration of a vehicle or to compliment the history of these historic machines
