Ebay supplied some genuine grained thumbspats to replace the missing ones on two cars. These little details make all the difference to the look of the car when complete.

The red car has been suffering from a badge rattle for sometime and finally its been fixed. However removal of the plastic central boss is not as straightforward as it looks and should never be prised off but the central mounting nut allows its release. New batteries were fitted today to replace the tired ones last fitted in 2011. These new ones have already restored the range and no longer is it restricted to about 18 miles or so and its a bit quicker too. Fitted Leoch LDC6-265-GC2 batteries rated 165min @75A continuous. The project to replace the loan Enfield door panels has completed the one side. The door pocket is now restored with a new hardboard backing and the original covering recovered from a different car. This matches well and looks really smart. Recycling a secondhand OEM door card to suit a car has also prompted the restoration of the door cards for a long term restoration as well. Almost a mini production line for the new 3mm hardboard backings A contact interest through the website turned out to be some very interesting memories of an early Enfield 465 in the 1970's. The Register was able to supply a copy of the actual advert used by Danny's father when the restored car was sold but unfortunately the subsequent history is no longer known. It is interesting to find someone who has both driven and used the early cars which were very different to the aluminium bodied Enfield 8000 cars we have in the Register.

"Unfortunately the batteries have suffered. I was running 72 volts and managing 12 miles or more on a charge. It is now struggling to do 4 miles. Due to the faulty cells I’m back a 48 volts but still not managing more than 5 or 6 miles. Anyway, I took it to the Stony Stratford Classic car gathering on New Year’s Day. I towed it most of the way and drove the last two miles to the show. The event was very busy, it seems to get bigger each year. My Enfield did attract a lot of attention." |
